Re-reading and I noticed one more thing that I think I noticed before but I forgot to flail about is that Cas not only writes Dean the divorce manual, he makes sure he doesn't stay with Dean because that would be another step closer, and Dean doesn't want that.
I just. The degree to which Cas goes to protect Dean from something Cas himself so desperately wants just breaks my heart, and always has. And probably always will.
