My approach to fic-writing is to roll with what I like and ignore or attempt to subvert everything else, because as much as I'm enjoying SPN, it doesn't do well by its many awesome female characters. THIS. It's the best way to deal with canon, really, because only about 2% of fandoms have female characters that it doesn't take a little bit of finagling to find the awesome in.
