A few months ago I was out with some people who were, shall we say, a little more like Dean. They were teasing one of the men in the group for complimenting a woman who was in fact (very obviously) a man. I decided to make a comment along the lines that maybe he was simply ready to embrace gender as being more than a binary concept. His response was, "Maybe, if I knew what 'binary' meant", and, oh, things didn't go any better after that.
